Located in the northwest plateau of Yunnan Province with an altitude of 2,400m, Lijiang Ancient City or the Old Town was built in the Southern Song Dynasty. This world famous Old Town is UNESCO Heritage Site, listed in 1997. The town has a history going back more than 800 years and was once a confluence for trade along the old tea horse road.
